The Medicine Seller is heading into his darkest battle yet. Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its new Mononoke movie, deciding on the release date for the final chapter of the visually striking trilogy.

Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III- The Curse of the Serpent will be arriving on September 29. This time, the danger begins with tragedy inside the Inner Chambers. Yukiko, the Emperor’s lawful wife, finally gives birth to a long-awaited son, only to lose the child despite desperate prayers. Her grief draws her into a conspiracy, while strange tremors, falling scales, and brutal deaths signal something far more sinister beneath the palace.
The Medicine Seller soon encounters the culprit: a gigantic serpent, Mononoke, described as a snake god. Talismans can temporarily repel the creature, but they cannot finish the job. Before he can unsheathe the Sacred Sword, he must discover the entity’s Shape, Truth, and Reason, the secrets required to destroy a Mononoke.
The final chapter also arrives with a stacked creative lineup. Kenji Nakamura serves as chief director, with Tomoaki Koshida directing and Yasumi Atarashi handling the screenplay. Kitsuneko Nagata leads character design, while Yuichi Takahashi works as an animation character designer and chief animation director.
Youichi Katoono oversees background art design, joined by background art directors Akira Kuramoto and Yoko Saito. Takashi Kurahashi serves as art supervisor, with Kunio Tsujita handling color design and Yoichi Senzui working as visual director.
The trilogy has also followed a deliberate shift in perspective. The Phantom in the Rain focused on a newly arrived maid, while The Ashes of Rage moved toward the Ōoku’s concubines. The finale turns its attention to the Midaidokoro, the highest-ranking noble, bringing the stories’ previously planted threads toward one confrontation.
Fans already sound ready for the finale. Reactions on social media included “Just waiting… Day 126,” “Let’s gooooo,” “Woooohooo! Let’s go!!!” and an emphatic “YES!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!”
