Adam Driver’s Mister Sinister May Not Be the Villain X-Men Fans Expect

Adam Driver’s Mister Sinister may already be taking orders from someone far more dangerous in the MCU. A new rumor suggests Marvel has bigger plans for the X-Men villain that could reshape the entire next saga.

Mister Sinister rumor reveals Marvel’s plan for Adam Driver beyond X-Men

Known Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello has shared a new rumor on X about Adam Driver’s role as Mister Sinister extending beyond the X-Men reboot.

The scooper claimed, “The idea is for Mister Sinister (Adam Driver) to work for the big bad of the next saga. They are casting a big name for a cameo.” In the comics, Mister Sinister has historically served powerful figures like Apocalypse, and has also answered to entities such as Kang the Conqueror and even the Celestials.

Marvel Studios officially confirmed Driver’s casting just days ago at Disney’s D23 convention on Friday night. Driver appeared via video at the D23 presentation and playfully teased the crowd of 12,000 about playing Magneto before revealing his true role. He shared that he and Kevin Feige had spent years discussing his entry into the MCU before landing on the right project.

The actor’s name had long circulated in fan speculation, though most expected him to portray the antihero Magneto instead. Ian McKellen will instead appear as a haggard version of Magneto in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on December 18. Robert Downey Jr. stars in that film as Dr. Doom after shedding his iconic Iron Man persona.

Marvel’s approach mirrors its Infinity Saga strategy of weaving standalone films into a larger overarching narrative. The X-Men reboot features a stacked ensemble cast alongside Driver’s Mister Sinister. Kit Connor plays Cyclops, Sadie Sink portrays Jean Grey, and Inde Navarrette takes on the role of Rogue.

Samara Weaving joins as Emma Frost while newcomer Maya Boyd will portray Storm. Director Jake Schreier helms the reboot with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo writing the script.

Marvel has slated the film for a May 2028 theatrical release.
