The first reviews for Coyote vs. Acme are here, and critics are loving it, with some claiming it’s more enjoyable than other Looney Tunes movies. ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim praised the film in their review, writing that it doesn’t “reach the heights of the greatest Looney Tunes productions” but “there is more than enough here to make the movie worthwhile.” According to Sim’s review, the film captures the spirit of Looney Tunes cartoons, praising the technical work that went into integrating the 2D characters into live-action footage.
The Hollywood Reporter’s review called it “one of the best live-action/animated hybrid films ever.” The glowing review stated that the film is “consistently funny” and filled with gags and references that Looney Tunes fans will recognize. The review also pointed out that despite the slapstick comedy, it is also emotionally resonant.
The Wrap’s review compared Wile E. Coyote to a “tragic stand-in for the human condition.” The review added that the film is a Looney Tunes version of classic courtroom dramas like Erin Brockovich. Aside from being “gut-bustlingly hilarious”, the reviewer also noted that it is intelligent and moving where it needs to be.
