Jurassic World 5 gets a disappointing update as director Gareth Edwards exits the highly anticipated sequel. The filmmaker’s exit has now led to fans wishing that Colin Trevorrow doesn’t replace him.
With Jurassic World’s next installment currently in development at Universal, multiple reports state that Gareth Edwards will not return as director due to “creative differences.” The studio also released a statement addressing the exit. “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth,” Universal said, according to Deadline. Edwards had helmed the franchise’s last installment, Jurassic World Rebirth (2025).
Following Edwards’ departure, fans have now stormed social media to voice their disapproval of Colin Trevorrow, another Jurassic World veteran. According to numerous social media posts, fans don’t want Trevorrow to replace Edwards in the upcoming sequel.
@Curly26340963 said, “If you had said that Colin Trevorrow was coming back for the Rebirth sequel, the Jurassic World fandom would have a heart attack.” @AKlay19 quipped, “The funniest thing ever would be if they went back to Colin Trevorrow.”

Nah.” @Renzoflow praised Edwards’ directorial work in Jurassic World Rebirth, saying, “Rebirth is so much more successful than Colin Trevorrow’s shitty trilogy. It’s a shame that Gareth Edwards isn’t coming back.”
Colin Trevorrow’s mixed legacy in the Jurassic World trilogy
Colin Trevorrow had previously directed Jurassic World (2015) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022). Additionally, he co-wrote Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) with Derek Connolly. While all three movies were box-office hits, they met with a lukewarm response from critics.
Furthermore, the movies have sparked a fan debate. While some enjoyed Trevorrow’s work, many were not pleased with his writing and character development, pointing to the stark contrast with Spielberg’s original 1993 classic based on Michael Crichton’s novel.
Meanwhile, David Koepp is returning to write the eighth overall film in the franchise. Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are also expected to return, but there have been no official confirmations yet.
