Jurassic World 5 has hit an unexpected setback after a major behind-the-scenes change. Director Gareth Edwards has reportedly left the sequel. This means Universal needs to find a new director once again.
This news comes after Jurassic World Rebirth’s massive box office success. The reported reason for Edwards’ exit has surprised many fans.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Edwards left Jurassic World 5 due to creative differences. The movie is still moving forward. David Koepp has returned to write the script. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are expected to reprise their roles.

This is not the first time the franchise has faced such a situation. Initially, David Leitch was set to direct Jurassic World Rebirth. But he left because of creative differences, and Edwards replaced him later.
Universal avoided commenting on what led to Edwards’ exit. However, the studio thanked the filmmaker for his work. In a statement, they wrote, “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.”
Despite this change, the sequel remains one of Universal’s biggest upcoming movies. Steven Spielberg remains involved as executive producer, while Frank Marshall continues to produce the franchise.
Jurassic World Rebirth collected around $872 million at the global box office. The film also introduced a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, leaving room for another adventure.
According to sources, Gareth Edwards may now return to making original films. Before directing Jurassic World Rebirth, he made the sci-fi film The Creator. Rebirth was the fourth Jurassic World movie and the seventh film in the overall Jurassic franchise. It also became one of Universal’s biggest box office hits, making the director’s exit a notable change for the series.
Universal hasn’t announced Edwards’ replacement so far, and Jurassic World 5 remains in development.
