According to a Marvel star, Ant-Man 4 can still happen. This is even though Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the latest entry in the movie series, was a critical and commercial disappointment.
Kathryn Newton says Ant-Man 4 could happen on one condition
Kathryn Newton said in a new interview with The Direct that Ant-Man 4 can still happen if the project meets one condition. She made it clear that the project’s chances of moving forward depend largely on how strongly fans want another Ant-Man movie. Newton portrayed Cassandra “Cassie” Lang in Quantumania and will reprise the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
“I think that’s not up to me, and it’s up to the fans at the end of the day,” Newton said. “I’ve always talked about the power of a fandom, and if you want something, it will happen, no matter what… If you love it, it’s gonna come back around. We see it all the time with things being rebooted and sequels after 20 years. If fans want something, we listen. And that’s how I felt about everything I’ve done.”
Newton then drew a comparison between her latest movie, the shark survival thriller The Devil’s Mouth, and Marvel. She expressed her hope that fans would like the movie even though it belongs to a very specific genre.
She added, “So, you think about the fans a lot, and on Marvel specifically, that’s one where the fandom is the biggest fandom I’ve ever been a part of. And I trust their power, and if they want something, they will have it.”
At the time of this article’s composition, Quantumania has a 46% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, it made a little over $476 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo).
Despite the movie’s lukewarm performance, producer Stephen Broussard stated in 2023 that he had discussed a fourth Ant-Man film with Quantumania director Peyton Reed and Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige. However, Marvel hasn’t officially greenlit the project yet.
