The Russos Finally Answer Avengers’ Secret Wars Line-up & Battleworld Questions

Anthony and Joe Russo have addressed questions about the line-up for Avengers: Secret Wars and the potential inclusion of the Battleworld plot. Notably, Battleworld is a distant planet that serves as a prominent setting in the Secret Wars comics.

The Russos can neither confirm nor deny Battleworld for Avengers: Secret Wars

The Russo brothers declined to provide any information on whether or not Battleworld is part of the narrative in Avengers: Secret Wars. Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast asked the duo about the Secret Wars line-up and potential Battlefield inclusion after Marvel’s panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

“We won’t confirm or deny whether Battleworld appears in either of these films,” Joe Russo said. “And we cannot confirm or deny who appears in Battleworld if Battleworld were to be in one of these films.”

Anthony Russo then reminded Horowitz, “The stakes are too high.” The Russos’ response to the above questions is predictable and makes perfect sense. Marvel Studios is in charge of one of the biggest franchises in the world, and the two upcoming Avengers movies are among the most anticipated features in the history of cinema. Marvel has always maintained a level of secrecy around its projects, hiding details until the company thought it was the right time for them to be revealed

However, if the Russos are making a rather faithful adaptation of Secret Wars, Battleworld will likely appear in the movie. As mentioned above, the distant planet is an important setting in the source material. The Beyonder created the first Battleworld in the comics. Interestingly. Doctor Doom created the third Battleworld after he stole the powers of the Beyonders.

Much about Avengers: Secret Wars remains under wraps. It is known that the Russos are directing the film from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. In the above interview, Anthony Russo said that they conceived Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in such a way that they “would speak to each other.”

Avengers: Doomsday releases on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
