Simu Liu’s Meeting With Robert Downey Jr. for Avengers: Doomsday Was Really Embarrassing

Simu Liu, the lead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon. He discussed a variety of things, including meeting Robert Downey Jr. for the first time during a recent shoot, amidst not-so-perfect circumstances. Liu was visibly embarrassed while revealing this meeting to host Jimmy Fallon.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Simu Liu was embarrassed meeting Robert Downey Jr. in shorts

During his latest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actor, who is now set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday as his iconic character, Shang-Chi, was asked about his involvement in the film. Fallon showed a photo of Simu Liu with other cast members, including Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, and Robert Downey Jr. Apparently, Liu stood out in this photo for the wrong reasons.

It was the first time he was meeting Robert Downey Jr., one of the most acclaimed actors in the world. And Simu Liu happened to be highly underdressed for the event. While every other actor wore regular clothes, the 36-year-old was seen in a very short pair of bright blue shorts. The revelation drew laughter from the crowd.

“This was my first time meeting Downey, btw, so I am as embarrassed as I am right now showing it to you,” Liu said of the moment.

However, in his defense, the actor revealed that he was the only one who had to shoot that day, and he turned up in the attire. In the middle of his shoot, Downey wanted to say hi to him, and Liu turned up in his present attire.

When he did show up to meet Downey, the Iron Man star responded with “Oh, look at you…that’s a choice.” This drew more laughter from the live audience.

Liu’s character will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres on December 18, 2026. He recently appeared on In Your Dreams, which premiered on Netflix in November.
