James Gunn has broken his silence on the backlash to the Peacemaker Season 2 finale. While the new season received praise overall, its closing episode has garnered significant criticism on social media. Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that he was aware of the criticism.
James Gunn has seen Peacemaker Season 2 finale criticism
James Gunn has addressed the backlash surrounding the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, acknowledging that not everyone was satisfied with how the story concluded.
The HBO Max series, which returned this year for its second season, earned an impressive 95% critic score. However, the finale episode “Full Nelson” left fans divided, with some fans calling it a disappointing conclusion. One user even described it as “the worst episode” of the series, adding, “Total nothing burger, we were told big DC Stars were gonna be in it, big surprises and a direct tie to MOT, none of that happened.”
When a fan on Threads asked whether he had seen the criticism, Gunn confirmed he had. He wrote, “Definitely! Not everyone can love everything. I love the episode but I understand not everyone does which is completely fair.” His comment came amid online debate about the show’s closing moments.
In the comment section, fans praised Gunn’s willingness to address the backlash directly rather than ignore it. While Peacemaker remains a fan-favorite entry in the DCU, Gunn has clarified that a third season is not currently planned. In a now-deleted Deadline interview, he said, “That doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU. It’s an important character.”
Peacemaker Season 2 came to an end with its eighth episode on October 10, 2025. It tied together the show’s ongoing multiverse narrative while laying the groundwork for future storylines within the DC Universe. Led by John Cena in the titular role of Chris Smith, the show’s cast also includes Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee, among others.
