Series creator James Gunn‘s recent comment on the upcoming Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 6 indicates that it could be the best episode of the show. Given the critical acclaim that the series has received since its debut on January 13, 2022, this will be an impressive feat to accomplish. Notably, Peacemaker currently has a 93% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1 and a 97% rating for Season 2.
James Gunn says John Cena does his best acting in Peacemaker’s next episode
Gunn recently took to Threads to discuss Peacemaker. A fan noted that the filmmaker has previously spoken about how much John Cena, who plays Chris Smith / Peacemaker, has improved as an actor, before asking if there was any specific moment in the remaining episodes that moved the DC Studios co-head. “Yes next episode is John’s best acting ever,” Gunn posted in response. This potentially means that the next episode could be the best one in the show’s history.
Aside from critical success, Peacemaker Season 2 has received mostly positive responses from fans, making it yet another hit entry in the DCU. Gunn’s above-mentioned comment understandably drew excited replies from fans. One of them, kryptons_daughter, wrote, “I’m so pumped… and terrified… and preparing myself emotionally.”
Gunn’s comment is also interesting in the context of Cena’s acting career. His first appearance as a lead was in 2006’s action feature The Marine. Since then, he has proven he is equally comfortable in comedic and action roles. He has played Peacemaker in the eponymous series, The Suicide Squad, and Superman. It’s a role that not only requires him to rely on his comedic and action credentials but also explores his dramatic abilities.
Besides Cena, the cast of Peacemaker includes Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos.
