After James Gunn responded to a post from a SnyderCut subreddit that threatened to review bomb his upcoming Superman film, moderators of the said community have come out to share an official statement on the matter. Through the message, the operators of the group, which is dedicated to director Zack Snyder’s extended cut of his Justice League film, have distanced themselves from the campaign intended to sabotage Gunn’s revamped DCU.
SnyderCut subreddit issues statement after James Gunn dismissed review bomb threat
Less than a month away from the theatrical release of Superman, a user on the SnyderCut subreddit urged fans to “stand up and fight for SnyderVerse” by posting “spoilers everywhere.” They also asked fans to leave “bad ratings on review sites,” and reserve tickets online without completing the purchase.
Mods of the SnyderCut subreddit deleted the post shortly after it came up. However, screenshots of the plea to review bomb Superman have survived online. Meanwhile, James Gunn issued a statement that he was unbothered by the said threat. Yet, moderators of the SnyderCut subreddit have distanced themselves from such behavior in the group.
Their official message, as posted in the Reddit community, read, “Our staff never approved that post and does not endorse what it said. This is a public sub, where posts do not have to be pre-approved. The mere appearance of a post on our sub does not represent any endorsement by us.”
The statement concluded by saying, “The post wasn’t so much controversial as it was universally disapproved of. We support everyone’s right to vote with their wallets by choosing to not see a movie. But we do not support any dishonesty or manipulation aimed at stopping someone else from choosing to see a movie.”
Many have expressed their disappointment in James Gunn’s plans for his new DCU. This is after he took over proceedings at DC Studios following Zack Snyder’s departure. Nevertheless, the SnyderCut subreddit, which represents a group still hoping for more releases set in the so-called Snyderverse, has now come out to distance itself from extreme methods such as review bombing Gunn’s Superman.
Superman is on track to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
