Superman: James Gunn Responds to SnyderVerse Fan’s Review Bombing Threat

James Gunn recently addressed attempts by a small group of SnyderVerse supporters to sabotage Superman ahead of its release. Responding on social media, the director downplayed the impact of the campaign while reaffirming confidence in the film’s success and support from broader DC fans.

James Gunn is sure Superman will survive SnyderVerse fans’ attempt to sabotage sales

James Gunn addressed a viral Reddit post where some SnyderVerse supporters urged people to sabotage Superman through review bombing, spoilers, and fake ticket reservations. Moderators later removed the post from r/SnyderCut. Gunn responded on Threads, stating, “lol I think we’ll survive. I’m not sure the eight people that listen to that guy… are going to impact the course of events.”

The proposed sabotage followed backlash from some Snyder fans over the rebooted DC Universe. Gunn took over the franchise following Warner Bros.’ decision to move away from Zack Snyder’s vision. In response to the sabotage post, one user clarified, “Important to be aware this post was shut down from the mods of that sub immediately,” referring to its removal due to policy violations.

Another fan added, “Many Snyder fans including myself don’t support this kind of behavior,” distinguishing mainstream Snyder supporters from the fringe group behind the sabotage call. The post had encouraged fans to “fight for our Snyderverse on the imposter Superman release day.”

Despite these actions, ticket sales appear unaffected. A Threads user stated, “If ticket sales at my theater for July 8 are any indicator, then you have nothing to worry about.” Gunn also shared enthusiasm for the upcoming world tour promoting Superman, joking, “Everything but balut!!”

The film features David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Additional cast members include Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Milly Alcock. Superman marks the first feature in DC Studios’ new cinematic universe.

Warner Bros. Pictures will release Superman in theaters worldwide on July 11, 2025.
