Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed that they helmed the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts*. The superhero feature is the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follows a ragtag group of antiheroes as they team up against their former employer and take on an immensely powerful enemy. The post-credits scene establishes a tangible connection between the movie and several other upcoming MCU projects, including Avengers: Doomsday, which the Russo brothers are directing.

The Russos confirm they directed Thunderbolts* post-credits scene
The Russo Brothers urged MCU fans to go watch Thunderbolts* in theaters and congratulated the cast and crew of the movie in an Instagram post. They further wrote, “And make sure to stay until the very end of the credits… we left you a little something.”
This confirms the reports that the duo helmed the end-credits scene of the movie. The confirmation comes after Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier hinted that the post-credits scene was filmed very late and that he wasn’t involved in the production. He even indicated that the scene in question was filmed on the set of Avengers: Doomsday.
In Thunderbolts* post-credits scene, which takes place 14 months after the events of the climax, the titular squad, since rebranded as the New Avengers, are shown residing in the Watchtower.
They are apparently caught in a copyright battle with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson / Captain America as he intends to start a non-governmental Avengers team with Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres / Falcon.
This prompts David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian to try to convince the others that they should call themselves the Avengers with a “z.” Shortly afterward, an extra-dimensional spaceship enters Earth’s orbit. When it rotates, it reveals the Fantastic Four logo on its side.
This scene links Thunderbolts* not only to Doomsday but also to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which comes out on July 25, 2025. Given that it has already been announced that the cast members of both Thunderbolts* and First Steps will appear in Doomsday, the end-credits scene effectively serves as a prelude to the May 2026 feature.
