Rumor: Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine to Return in Avengers: Doomsday’s Cast

Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, according to a recent claim by a reliable scooper. While unconfirmed by Marvel Studios, the report has fueled speculation about Jackman reprising a variant of his iconic character, possibly linking to the multiversal storyline introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine.

According to industry scooper @MyTimeToShineHello, who recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will return in ‘AVENGERS DOOMSDAY.’” 

Jackman was not listed in Marvel Studios’ official Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement. The revealed cast includes 27 confirmed names, several of whom are from 20th Century Fox’s original X-Men films.

Confirmed cast members include Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Channing Tatum (Gambit). Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were not part of the announcement, even though Tatum’s Gambit debuted in Deadpool & Wolverine. The X-Men from Wolverine’s original universe are confirmed to be dead, suggesting any return would involve a multiversal variant.

The multiversal nature of Avengers: Doomsday allows for alternate versions of legacy characters. Patrick Stewart is returning as Professor X, despite the confirmed deaths of several Xavier variants. This means that Stewart is playing a new version of the character. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine may follow a similar pattern. He could return as the variant introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine, or as another version, such as the “brown-and-tan” Wolverine seen in the variant montage.

Avengers: Doomsday will feature characters from the Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. However, not all the expected names have been announced. Marvel Studios has confirmed that more cast members will be revealed. 

This could explain the absence of Hugh Jackman, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. Marvel has previously kept major character reveals secret to build anticipation. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home followed this same strategy.

Avengers: Doomsday releases on May 1, 2026.
