Inhumans: Anson Mount Addresses Rumored MCU Return

Marvel Studios is seemingly not bringing the Inhumans back for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Anson Mount, who portrayed the Inhuman leader Black Bolt in the short-lived ABC series, recently took to X to debunk a rumor claiming that the entire cast would be returning for the upcoming crossover event.

“This is so interesting. Please tell us more about this contract I apparently signed in my sleep. I’m so curious to hear all the juicy details from a feed that is clearly not a click-farm,” Mount wrote. The original X post with the rumor was subsequently updated with a community note to alert further readers that the so-called scoop was false.

Mount’s X post can be viewed below:

Black Bolt has appeared twice in the MCU

Mount made his debut as Black Bolt in the ABC drama series Inhumans, which was canceled after a single season in May 2018 due to low viewership. The actor then made a surprise cameo in the 2022 movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as the Earth-838 variant of the ruler of Attilan. Black Bolt was depicted with a comics-accurate costume and as a member of the Earth-838 Illuminati.

While Earth-838 Black Bolt was killed off in Multiverse of Madness, the version from the ABC series is still alive, leaving the door open for Mount to return as the superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Mount will be back as the character anytime soon. In addition to his recent debunking, the actor shared in July 2023 that he has only had “informal conversations” with Marvel about future MCU appearances.

Anson Mount headlines Strange New Worlds

Even if Marvel wanted to bring back Mount as Black Bolt, the studio would have to work around his schedule for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which he headlines as Captain Christopher Pike. Strange New Worlds, a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery, follows the crew of the starship USS Enterprise a decade before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series.

The first season of Strange New Worlds premiered in May 2022 on Paramount+, followed by a second season in June 2023. A third season, which was temporarily delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, is currently in production. A fourth season has also been ordered.

Marvel fans can watch Mount’s Black Bolt in Inhumans and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, both of which are currently streaming on Disney+.
