Zack Snyder Shares Martian Manhunter Quote From Justice League

Earlier this month, Harry Lennix confirmed long-standing rumors that he’ll appear as Martian Manhunter in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In fact, he even filmed new scenes as the character in front of a green screen last fall. And although it’s entirely possible that we won’t actually get to see the film’s interpretation of J’onn J’onzz until the movie hits HBO Max in March, Snyder has teased the character’s arrival with a new photo shared on Vero and Twitter earlier today. However, it’s not exactly the “first look” that fans were hoping for…

The extent of Martian Manhunter’s role in the Snyder Cut remains a mystery. But now we know that he has at least one line of dialogue in the film. Still, it’s a bit strange that Snyder chose to pair this quote with an image of Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, even one that shows off his character’s masked look. Unless, of course, this is actually his cheeky way of commenting on Fisher’s ongoing war of words with Warner Bros. and DC Films (but that seems unlikely).

Lennix previously appeared in other DC movies as Calvin Swanwick, originally an army general in Man of Steel and then the Secretary of Defense in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder had every intention of revealing his character’s true identity in Justice League. But after Snyder left the film to deal with a personal tragedy, Joss Whedon cut Lennix’s scenes from the script. In the years that followed, Snyder occasionally posted storyboards for those scenes on social media. Now, fans will finally get to see them play out onscreen.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on HBO Max on March 18.
