Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Brings Back Agent Carter’s Daniel Sousa

Fans of Agent Carter will be glad to hear that an old acquaintance of theirs will return in the upcoming season of Agents of SHIELD. As a matter of fact, Entertainment Weekly revealed that actor Enver Gjokaj will reprise his role as Daniel Sousa for the final season of ABC’s show. This return will be possible thanks to the fact that in the upcoming season of Agents, Coulson and the rest of the team will be able to travel in time.

“One of the things we think is so fun — especially with Coulson, who’s just a fanboy for S.H.I.E.L.D. history — is them just getting to walk right into [that history],” Agents of SHIELD co-showrunner Jed Whedon said while speaking with EW. “With Sousa, we had a good opportunity to hit that note with Agent Coulson.”

Gjokaj played Daniel Sousa for the two-season run of the Marvel series. The actor declared himself “surprised” for the return, but he also believes that Sousa and Coulson are “very similar.” Agents of SHIELD co-showrunner Jeff Bell teased that fans will see a different side of Gjokaj’s Sousa from the one fans saw in Agent Carter.

“We get to see him in a different light,” he added. “[Sousa] had a particular role on [Agent Carter], and so we were able to show another color of him that you hadn’t necessarily seen on the show.”

Given that they aired on the same network, Agents of SHIELD technically already crossed over with Agent Carter, thanks to a quick flashback at the beginning of the former show’s second season.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will debut its seventh and final season on Wednesday, May 27 at 10 pm on ABC. Are you happy that Enver Gjokaj’s Daniel Sousa will return? Let us know in the comments section below.
