Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Adds Markella Kavenagh

The casting process for Amazon Prime’s Lord of the Rings series has finally begun. According to Variety, Markella Kavenagh has become first performer to join the new series based on J.R.R. Tolkein’s fantasy novels.

Obviously, the report doesn’t reveal any substantive details about Kavenagh’s role on the show. However, Variety’s sources insist that her character’s name is Tyra. Kavenagh made her acting debut in 2018 with Romper Stomper, an Australian TV series that served as a sequel to the 1992 film of the same name. She has also appeared on Amazon’s Picnic at Hanging Rock and BBC One’s The Cry.

The nature of this new take on Tolkien’s beloved franchise continues to be a mystery. Co-writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay are developing the series, with former Game of Thrones writer and producer acting as a consultant. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona has been recruited to helm several episodes of the show. So far, all fans have had to speculate on are map images that the series’ official Twitter started posting in February. Over the course of a few weeks, the account filled in the map with the names of various locations. The last image was shared in early March.

Lord of the Rings is still without a premiere date. What are your thoughts on Kavenagh joining the show? Do you have any theories about her character? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!
