Video: John Boyega and Lupita Nyong’o on The Force Awakens

Interview with John Boyega and Lupita Nyong’o on Star Wars: The Force Awakens

He’s spending every free moment playing Star Wars Battlefront. He’s eagerly buying the new merchandise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He’s counting down the moments until the new film hits the big screen and is more than happy to talk with anyone and everyone about it. No, he’s not your typical Star Wars fan on the street. He’s John Boyega, who plays the renegade Stormtrooper Finn in the new Star Wars sequel. You’d be hard pressed to find a better man to star as the lead in this movie. Not only is he enthusiastic and energetic to be in the role, but as we’ve seen in films like Attack the Block, he’s got the acting talent to back it up.

Joining him is Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata. While we’ve seen this beautiful actress before in 12 Years A Slave, we won’t see her real face at all in “The Force Awakens.” She portrays a CGI character who plays a key role in guiding our heroes through their journey and, as J.J. Abrams told us last weekend, has crossed paths with Yoda in her mysterious past. And though we’ve seen her on the movie poster and heard her in the trailers, Lupita is saving the secrets about her character for your discovery on the big screen.

Opening in theaters on December 18, 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a new generation of swashbuckling heroes and shadowy villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the highly-anticipated movie stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Lawrence Kasdan & J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be followed on December 16, 2016 by Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryStar Wars: Episode VIII on May 26, 2017, and the Han Solo anthology movie on May 25, 2018. No release dates have been announced for Star Wars: Episode IX or for the third anthology movie. It was recently confirmed, however, that Jurassic World‘s Colin Trevorrow will be helming the third Saga chapter.
