Adam McKay, Rawson Thurber and Ruben Fleischer Contenders to Helm Ant-Man

A week ago today, it was revealed that director Edgar Wright had departed from Marvel Studios’ upcoming production of Ant-Man due to creative differences on the project, despite being attached since 2006. At the time it was said the hunt for a replacement was on the way and now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers, The Other Guys), Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball, We’re the Millers) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) are all on the shortlist of directors meeting with Marvel Studios about taking on the job.

The names above might give us an idea of the tone that Marvel Studios is hoping to achieve with the film as McKay and Thurber are most well known for directing ensemble comedies, while Fleischer’s films have slanted toward a more dramatic tone though heavily featured comedic moments. Which of these three would you like to see take on Ant-Man? Sound off below!

Set to star Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson and Corey Stoll, Ant-Man follows a biochemist Dr. Hank Pym using his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects. Paul Rudd will play Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas stars as Hank Pym. Ant-Man is scheduled to be released July 17, 2015.

UPDATE: TheWrap is reporting that Rawson Marshall Thurber is the frontrunner for the job out of the three.
