The Wasp may be getting a major shakeup in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Avengers: Doomsday.
There have been two active Wasps in the MCU. Michelle Pfeiffer portrayed the original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, who was active as the superhero/S.H.I.E.L.D. agent until her disappearance in 1987. Her daughter, Hope van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly, then took on the mantle of the Wasp roughly 30 years later in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
Both Janet and Hope were last seen in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, alongside both the original and current Ant-Mans — Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). With Rudd currently being the only one of those four confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday, much has been theorized within the MCU fandom about the future of the rest of the Ant-Family.
Trusted insider Alex Perez previously claimed that Marvel Studios has no plans for Hank and Janet moving forward in the MCU, while scooper The Beyond Reporter recently stated that the “Wasp is set to die off-screen in Avengers: Doomsday.” Douglas has semi-retired from acting, as has Lilly, who chose to retire from acting to focus on her family.
Avengers: Doomsday may introduce a new Wasp actor
Now, according to reliable scooper MAJESTIC_ucm on X, a “variant of Janet” will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The scooper revealed the MCU update after sharing an image of actor Ana de Armas beside a still of the Janet van Dyne/Wasp from the animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The implication is that de Armas will make her MCU debut in Doomsday as a younger variant of Pfeiffer’s Wasp.
De Armas has been rumored to be joining the MCU since August 2025. At the time, insider Daniel Richtman stated Marvel wanted her for a “big role” in the MCU, and Wasp would certainly fit the bill. However, it’s not the role many fans were expecting the actor to play, as The Beyond Reporter had previously hinted that de Armas would be playing the X-Men hero Psylocke.
All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
