The Batman: Part II Production Update Has Fans Convinced Who DC Movie’s Villains Will Be

The highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman is currently ramping up production under a cryptic placeholder title. With fresh confirmation regarding the production details, fans are speculating that The Batman: Part II will introduce a new formidable DC supervillain.

According to a recent report by Comic Book Movie, “Semper Vigilans” has been confirmed as the working title for The Batman: Part II. Although this was previously reported, the outlet says the information might have been up for contention at the time. As per the official filings, the project is moving forward under the title. “Semper Vigilans” translates from Latin to “Always Vigilant” or “Ever Watchful.”

Although official plot details around Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight remain under wraps, the Latin phrase has sparked discussion regarding which DC Comics villain the Dark Knight will face in this movie.

Gotham’s hidden power players could finally enter the Batman universe

Fans believe that The Batman: Part II’s reported working title “Semper Vigilans” is a reference to the Court of Owls. This secret society in Gotham City is one of the major antagonists in the Batman comics.

The Court of Owls first appeared in DC Comics’ Batman #6 in 2012. The organization is made up of some of the most influential and wealthiest citizens of Gotham City. Some fans speculate that they might be in The Batman sequel because of the working title. “Semper Vigilans,” or “Ever Watchful,” is reminiscent of a poem about the Court of Owls in the comics.

The comic poem reads: “Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed, speak not a whispered word of them, or they’ll send the Talon for your head.”

A photo of a prop from the movie recently shared by a crew member further supports this fan theory. However, DC Studios has not confirmed whether the villainous organization will appear in The Batman: Part II.
