A new Shang-Chi 2 update has shed some light on the possibility of a new entry in the MCU franchise, and is one that fans will definitely get excited about.
What’s the latest Shang-Chi 2 update?
During a recent Q&A session on The Cosmic Circus, insider Alex Perez was asked about the status of the second Shang-Chi movie. Specifically, he was asked if there were plans to make the movie still, and if Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton was set to direct it.
In news that’s sure to excite fans, Perez said that there was. Not only that, Perez also noted that Marvel is interested in developing a “Ten Rings project” similar to that of Eyes of Wakanda. No definitive word on how that would work, though, so fans will have to just wait to see more information on that.
A sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was originally reported to be in development in 2021, with Destin Daniel Cretton said to be returning to write and direct the film. Since then, though, the film’s status has mostly been in limbo. Liu said in 2023 that the film was being continually delayed, and reports at the time suggested the film would release after the then-planned Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which Cretton was tapped to direct.
Cretton would go on to drop out of Kang Dynasty, though, and join Spider-Man: Brand New Day as director in 2024. The latest report on Shang-Chi 2 notes that the film is still in development, but has taken a backseat as Cretton works on Brand New Day, which has been filming this year and is scheduled to release on July 31, 2026.
