If Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave fans just a taste of the many different universes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Doomsday looks to really kick the door open to what possible alternate worlds are out there in the Multiverse.
Notable MCU scooper James Mack recently dropped a gif of the T. rex from Jurassic World Rebirth on his X account, which immediately had Marvel fans scrambling to decipher what the social media post meant.
Many theorized that Avengers: Doomsday would feature Savage Land, a prehistoric, tropical preserve hidden in Antarctica. The Savage Land has already appeared in the MCU, making a cameo appearance in Multiverse of Madness as its own universe.
Which Doctor Doom variant may be making its MCU debut?
However, with Doctor Doom set to be the main antagonist of Doomsday and its direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, some fans thought the T.rex was a tease at one of the many Doom variants rumored to appear in the crossover movies, specifically, Dinosaur Doom. The T.rex variant of Doctor Doom was introduced into the pages of Marvel Comics back in 2023.
Plot details remain heavily under wraps for Avengers: Doomsday, which Anthony and Joe Russo will direct. The fan-favorite filmmakers are making their long-awaited return to the MCU after having helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
The Russos’ return was partially orchestrated by Robert Downey Jr., who agreed only to return to the MCU to play Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers sequels if the filmmakers directed the installments.
Downey’s Doctor Doom will be surrounded by familiar faces in the movie, such as Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, who is rumored to serve as the villain’s witch sidekick and will be dressed similarly to the iconic Fantastic Four baddie.
Doomsday will take place 14 months after the main events of last year’s Thunderbolts*, following the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men as they team up to face Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
