Scarlet Witch fans just received the best news yet about Elizabeth Olsen‘s potential future as the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe character.
What’s the latest on Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch MCU return?
Scarlet Witch has not been seen in the MCU since the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The 2022 movie featured the apparent death of the character, who was shown using her chaos magic to bring down Mount Wundagore, destroying all copies of the Darkhold across the multiverse, but also burying herself under the mountain in the process.
While Olsen has been rumored to be reprising her role as Scarlet Witch in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, her involvement has not been officially confirmed at this time. However, according to Daniel Richtman via his Patreon, a Scarlet Witch solo project is reportedly in the works at Marvel Studios, with plans to produce it for the Mutant Saga.
Olsen has been open about her desire to return to the MCU as Scarlet Witch. In November 2025, she shared, “I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they’ve done with her is really great, and I love the journey she’s taken.”
One X-Men storyline that Olsen hopes will be adapted for the MCU during the Mutant Saga is House of M. “I mean, I just think that House of M is just the coolest. I don’t [know] how to make it make sense… Maybe there’s some fan pitches or theories out there. But I just think it could be so fun to deal with X-Men and Avengers, and ‘No more mutants,'” she shared in September 2025 at ComicCon LA.
Avengers: Secret Wars is rumored to end with a soft reboot of the MCU, allowing for a unified timeline and universe that features the Avengers, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. It also opens the door for Scarlet Witch to be resurrected for the Mutant Saga. While Marvel Studios may use this soft reboot as an opportunity to recast some older characters with younger actors, trusted insider Alex Perez shared back in August that Scarlet Witch would not be recast.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
