The DCU Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, has received an update from James Gunn.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold was one of several film projects that Gunn initially announced when he and Peter Safran were hired as co-chairs and co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios. The movie will be directed by Andy Muschietti, who previously made 2023’s The Flash.
What is the latest update about the DCU’s Batman?
According to YouTube channel Emergency Awesome, who recently interviewed Gunn, no actor has been cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the DCU as of yet.
That’s not terribly surprising, given that The Brave and the Bold does not yet have a release date from Warner Bros. Pictures, though it is worth mentioning that it’s unclear if the Dark Knight’s first DCU appearance will be in The Brave and the Bold or if he’ll show up in another project, such as Clayface, before that.
Emergency Awesome also mentions that “they have changed a lot of what the story was going to be since [Gunn] announced [The Brave and The Bold] a couple of years ago.” No other details beyond that were provided, meaning it’s unclear what, exactly, has changed about The Brave and The Bold since Gunn provided a description of the project in 2023.
Gunn said in that 2023 description, “The introduction of the DCU’s Batman is The Brave and the Bold. The Brave and the Bold is the story of Batman and his actual son, Damian Wayne. This is based on Grant Morrison’s great comic book run. Damian Wayne is my favorite Robin; he’s a little assassin who Batman tries to get in line. So this is the story of the two of them, and the beginning of sort of the Bat-Family in the DCU.”
The next DCU project will seemingly be Lanterns, which is expected to arrive in 2026, though an exact premiere date has not yet been set. Supergirl and Clayface are also being released in 2026.
