Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie has received a new rumor regarding potential details about Loki and Shang-Chi‘s return. It is currently scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026, followed by the theatrical release of Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
What are Loki and Shang-Chi’s potential roles in Avengers: Doomsday?
According to The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will reportedly have a significant role in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The insider also claimed that all the things he had learned from Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros/O.B. in Loki Season 2 might come in handy after all.
“All those centuries of physics, quantum mechanics, and learning everything OB knows has to pay off for something,” Perez shared.
As for Shang-Chi’s role in Doomsday, the insider teased that Simu Liu’s character might serve as one of the movie’s comic reliefs. Shang-Chi was last seen by fans in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. At the end of the movie, it was revealed that the rings he inherited from his father may have become a beacon or signal to something unknown.
“Bit of a comic relief. He may feel a bit out of place because it’ll be his first time being in a large group of super-powered heroes,” Perez revealed.

Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Avengers: Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo from a screenplay written by Stephen McFeely. The latest installment will feature the return of Marvel vets Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, with the Oppenheimer actor set to play a completely different role this time in the form of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. The ensemble cast will also include Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The fifth installment will also feature the return of X-Men stars Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Following the movie’s viral casting announcement video, Feige previously confirmed they haven’t revealed the entire cast yet, teasing more casting announcements in the future. Recent casting rumors suggested that Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man might also appear in Doomsday.
