Beloved Star Wars Legends Character Could Become Canon Soon

According to a new report from a noted insider, Disney may consider bringing a Star Wars Legends icon into its main canon.

What Star Wars Legends character could become canon?

According to new information from noted insider Daniel Richtman (also known as DanielRPK online), Lucasfilm “wants to do something” with the character Mara Jade Skywalker. The iconic character is one of the most popular in the Legends continuity, and fans have been hoping for her inclusion in the main canon of Star Wars for some time.

Currently, it’s unclear exactly how Lucasfilm would find a way to fit Mara Jade into the overall canon. With several different Star Wars films in development, however, it’s possible that one could include her and other members of the Legends continuity showing up.

Mara Jade Skywalker first appeared in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, written by author Timothy Zahn and the first in what has become known as the “Thrawn trilogy” of books. Mara Jade is the wife of Luke Skywalker and mother of Ben Skywalker, and has appeared in various Star Wars media, including different books, video games, and more.

Of course, the inclusion of Star Wars Legends continuity into the overall main canon of Star Wars is a controversial topic. In 2008, George Lucas was adamant that the Legends stories (then known as the Expanded Universe) were not part of his own story for Star Wars. After Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, most of the Star Wars novels and comics that comprised the Expanded Universe were re-branded as Star Wars Legends, and officially made non-canon in 2014.
