A new X-23 MCU rumor has emerged online.
X-23, also known as Laura Kinney, is a Marvel character created by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. She first appeared in the X-Men: Evolution television show in 2003 before making her official comics debut in 2004’s NYX #3. Laura later adopts the Wolverine name and costume within Marvel Comics continuity.
Dafne Keen played Laura/X-23 in 2017’s Logan. That movie was set within the same universe as the other Fox X-Men movies; however, Keen’s Laura then made her official MCU debut in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
What is the X-23 MCU rumor?
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Deadpool & Wolverine won’t be the last time X-23 fans get to see Keen’s Laura as the character will return for some future, unnamed project.
This is a rumor that should be taken with a grain of salt, as MyTimeToShineHello’s track record when it comes to breaking accurate scoops can be spotty. Marvel Studios has not commented on the matter.
Should the rumor be true, however, it’s possible that Keen could show up in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Laura was last seen in Deadpool/Wade Wilson’s universe, which is where the Fox X-Men characters currently reside. While there’s been no confirmation that Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman will return for the upcoming Avengers movies, a number of other X-Men characters — Kelsey Grammer’s Hank McCoy/Beast, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Erick Lehnsherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming’s Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn’s Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, and James Marsden’s Scott Summers/Cyclops — will be.
Otherwise, there’s always the possibility that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars play around with Marvel continuity and Laura ends up on Earth-616, which could then lead her to be part of the upcoming X-Men movie that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is in talks to helm.
This is all speculation at this time as, again, Marvel Studios has not commented on the matter and Keen’s casting in any upcoming Marvel-related projects has not been confirmed.
