Thunderbolts* Clip: Sebastian Stan & Florence Pugh Confront MCU Villain

Marvel Studios has released an official clip from its next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Thunderbolts*.

What happens in the Thunderbolts* clip?

Titled “Who’s This Old Santa?,” the clip begins mid-scene, with Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky Barnes telling Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ Val that “this ends today.” Val won’t back down, telling Bucky that she wasn’t surprised the former brainwashed assassin lasted “less than half a term” in office as a US congressman.

Val continues to take down the Thunderbolts one by one, dismissing Wyatt Russell‘s John Walker as “Junior varsity Captain America” and telling Florence Pugh‘s Yelena Belova that she looks “awful.” However, Val saved the best remark for David Harbour‘s Red Guardian, asking the team who “this Old Santa” is, with Red Guardian expressing disbelief that she doesn’t know who he is.

Based on the clip, the team is confronting Val in the former headquarters of the Avengers to learn where Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, is being kept. Bob, a.k.a. Sentry/The Void, is expected to be the main antagonist of the MCU movie. However, unlike most MCU villains who are killed off in their debut appearance, Pullman has already been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier hinting earlier this week that the character has an important part in the upcoming crossover movie.

“There might be some stones, or pebbles [smiles]. I don’t know how you want to rate your rocks. Look, you know the character that we’re talking about, and you know that there’s a level of power involved there that could have an impact going forward,” Schreier told SFX. “I’m not making Doomsday, so I’m not privy to that.”

Pugh, Harbour, Stan, Russell, and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost) will also be back for Doomsday, leaving just Olga Kurylenko as the only main Thunderbolts* anti-hero whose MCU future remains unclear at this time.

Thunderbolts* is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
