With more than two dozen heroes set to come together in Avengers: Doomsday, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier has seemingly revealed the one who stands the best chance against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Hitting theaters at the start of May, Thunderbolts* will bring together fan-favorite antiheroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe to battle Lewis Pullman’s Sentry, whose villainous other half, known as The Void, threatens to destroy New York City. With Pullman confirmed to return for Doomsday, Schreier recently hinted at how important the troubled superhero might be in helping the Avengers stop Doom.
What did Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier say about Sentry’s role in Avengers: Doomsday?
“There might be some stones, or pebbles [smiles]. I don’t know how you want to rate your rocks. Look, you know the character that we’re talking about, and you know that there’s a level of power involved there that could have an impact going forward,” Schreier told SFX (via CinemaBlend). “I’m not making Doomsday, so I’m not privy to that.”
Plot details remain under wraps for Avengers: Doomsday, which began production earlier this month with directors Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm. However, fans do know that Downey’s Doctor Doom will be the main antagonist of both Doomsday and its direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.
The record-breaking Doomsday cast announcement livestream also revealed most of the main cast for the epic crossover event, with Thunderbolts* stars Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Sebastian Stan joining Pullman as part of the ensemble. They will be reprising their respective roles as Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, John Walker/U.S. Agent, Ava Starr/Ghost, and Bucky Barnes.
Olga Kurylenko was the only main Thunderbolts* hero who did not receive a chair during the casting announcement, leading many fans to theorize that Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster will not make it out of the upcoming superhero movie alive.
Thunderbolts* is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, as the final film in Phase 5 of the MCU.
