Storm and Wolverine are leading a new X-Men team, and the reason why changes everything. Marvel reveals the full Maximum X-Men roster and first look at San Diego Comic-Con.
New Maximum X-Men comic series announced at Comic Con with first look
Marvel Comics announced Maximum X-Men at San Diego Comic-Con during its Avengers: Armageddon panel. The new ongoing series features writer Christopher Yost and artist Tony S. Daniel. It launches in December and follows Storm as she builds a new mutant team.
The series takes place after the events of Avengers: Armageddon, which leaves Earth without its Mightiest Heroes. Storm recruits Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar, and Justice for the roster. Their first mission pits them against a full-scale invasion from the Negative Zone.
Yost returns to the X-Men franchise after his acclaimed work during the 2010s. Meanwhile, Daniel recently drew issues of Jed MacKay’s X-Men series. Both creators appeared as surprise guests at the SDCC panel to discuss the book.
On reuniting with Marvel’s mutants, Yost shared, “MAXIMUM X-MEN is everything I love about comics rolled into one. It’s underdog heroes saving the world from the biggest Avengers-level threats imaginable.” He also praised the collaboration, adding, “To top it all off, I get to work with legendary artist Tony Daniel.”
Daniel expressed similar enthusiasm about the project’s personal significance. “ThThe X-Men have long been my favorite characters since discovering Giant Size X-Men#1 in the fourth grade,” Daniel said. He added, “I’m already in love with the story in the first issue. Its vibe and energy reminds me so much of the kind of X-Men stories I loved as a child.”
Additionally, writer Chip Zdarsky revealed details about his upcoming Avengers run with artist Marco Checchetto. That series follows the Avengers as they regroup in a world that has turned against them.
Maximum X-Men #1 arrives on December 2.
