While accepting the Unstructured Reality Program award at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys for Welcome To Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds surprised audiences as the Merc with the Mouth teasing the upcoming Deadpool 3.
“I also would like to thank FX and Disney for their support, and in exchange, Mr. Lively (Reynolds) promises to not f–k up my next movie,” Reynolds said in his acceptance speech. “Lastly, the Oscars. You’re on notice, motherf–ers. Maybe we can get a token VFX nod next year. The amount of work on Hugh and Ryan’s face alone is at least worth a nom.”
Reynolds’ Emmy speech marks his first appearance as the Marvel anti-hero since officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney‘s purchase of X-Men movie rights holder 20th Century Fox. The threequel was announced in 2022 when Reynolds revealed the inclusion of X-Men star Hugh Jackman reprising his iconic role as Logan/Wolverine in what has been teased to be a classic buddy movie along the lines of 48 HRS.
Rumored surprise cameos in Deadpool 3
While specific plot details have not been confirmed by Marvel Studios, set photo leaks suggest that the Merc with the Mouth will be involved in some multiverse shenanigans that will feature several cameos from the Fox-era Marvel movies. Among the characters reported to appear in Deadpool 3 include Dafne Keen as X-23, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth among others.
Reynolds warned fans not to let the spoilers run their moviegoing experience.
“Here’s hoping some of the websites and social channels hold back showing images before they’re ready,” Reynolds said. “The film is built for audience joy — and our highest hope is to preserve as much of that magic as possible for the finished film and the big screen. Part of the reason people post spoilers is because they’re excited. I realize these aren’t real-world issues and it’s firmly in the ‘good problems’ bucket.”
Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Reynolds and Jackman, Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 co-stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, Rob Delaney, and Matthew Macfadyen. Franchise screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick return alongside Zeb Wells penning the threequel from a previous draft by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled for release on July 26.
