Jason Momoa Addresses Lobo DCU Casting Rumors

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa revealed that he’s open to playing Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s rebooted DC Universe if the opportunity arises.

“So, Lobo … I used to collect comics and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite. And I’ve always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello?,’ It’s pretty perfect. It’s the perfect role,” Momoa said in an interview with Fandango.

He continued, “I mean, listen, if they call me and ask me to play it? It’s a f*** yeah. But, I mean, that’s a guarantee. So, you don’t have to worry about that. But, I haven’t received that call. So, I don’t want to put any fake news out there but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

Since Warner Bros. appointed Gunn and Safran to co-heads of DC Studios in 2022, Momoa’s name has been linked to the Czarnian bounty hunter as the studio begins to move away from the previous DCEU direction following the release of Momoa’s Aquaman sequel. Though the studio has not confirmed the development of a Lobo movie, Momoa has been public about his less-than-optimistic chances of continuing Arthur Curry’s story beyond the upcoming installment despite being open to reprising the character in future projects.

Jason Momoa’s DCU status

Regardless of how the Aquaman sequel performs at the box office, producer Safran teased big plans for Momoa’s future in the DCU. “I look forward to working with Jason for many years to come,” Safran said told Men’s Health in April. “I would be happy for it to be in Arthur Curry’s world, but if/when another opportunity came up, I’d find another great character for him to create … there are few superhero castings that are more perfect than Momoa as Aquaman.”

Momoa’s potential last appearance as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on December 22.
