John Stewart Claims the Ring in Green Lantern: Beware My Power
Warner Bros. Animation has announced that its next DC animated film will be Green Lantern: Beware My Power. And for the first-time ever, Green Lantern John Stewart will headline a movie of his own. That’s because in this universe, Hal Jordan and several other prominent Green Lanterns are dead. And unlike John’s depiction in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series, this incarnation is a rookie who has been thrust into a universe at war.
Aldis Hodge will star in the film as John Stewart. In the first trailer, John is confronted by members of the Justice League when he shows up unannounced. Green Arrow (Jimmi Simpson), Hawkgirl (Jamie Gray Hyder), Martian Manhunter (Ike Amadi), and Adam Strange (Brian Bloom) aren’t exactly thrilled to have John on the team. But with Sinestro (Rick D. Wasserman) and his forces on the move, they need everyone they can get.
Here’s the synopsis from Warner Bros, Animation:
“In Green Lantern: Beware My Power, recently discharged Marine sniper John Stewart is at a crossroads in his life, one which is only complicated by receiving an extraterrestrial ring which grants him the powers of the Green Lantern of Earth. Unfortunately, the ring doesn’t come with instructions – but it does come with baggage, like a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every Green Lantern in the universe. Now, with the aid of the light-hearted Green Arrow, Adam Strange and Hawkgirl, this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed.”
John Semper and Ernie Altbacker co-wrote the script for the film, which will be directed by Jeff Wamester.
Green Lantern: Beware My Power will hit Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital on July 26.
