Tom Holland might be playing Nathan Drake in Sony’s Uncharted film, but the character’s original voice actor is returning in a much different capacity. According to Variety, Nolan North is narrating the audio book for the movie’s official novelization.
The audio book gave North the opportunity to put his own stamp on several other Uncharted characters, including Antonio Banderas’ villainous Moncada and Mark Wahlberg’s Sully. However, listeners shouldn’t expect him to have Tom Holland’s cadence when reading Drake’s lines.
“I got to do Antonio Banderas, a little bit of a Mark Wahlberg and put on my own Boston accent a little bit,” said North. “And then Nathan Drake. I didn’t do Tom Holland, though. I kind of just did me, [but] I tried to young him up a little bit.”

North provided the voice and motion capture for Drake in all four main installments of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series. He also reprised his role in the PlayStation Vita spinoff Uncharted: Golden Abyss in 2011. It’s definitely going to be hard for some gamers to see someone else playing the treasure-hunting protagonist on the big screen this month. Regardless, North has been nothing but supportive of Holland’s casting. He even visited the set during production in Spain and reportedly has a cameo in the film as well.
The movie’s novelization will be released by Penguin Random House Publishing later this month. It was written by author S.D. Perry, who is no stranger to big-name franchises. Perry has previously written books set in the Alien, Resident Evil, and Star Trek universes. She also also written or co-written novelizations of films like Timecop and Virus.
Uncharted will hit theaters on February 18. The novelization will arrive on February 22.
