Ryan Reynolds Bulks Up in Latest Free Guy Featurette

Fans have had to wait for a while before watching Free Guy, but it seems that the wait was worth it. Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming movie was supposed to debut on Dec. 11, but Disney’s 20th Century Studios pulled it from its release date to wait for theaters to re-open. Now, we are just a few days away before its theatrical debut and the marketing material is running wild. In the latest featurette for the movie (released by Reynolds himself), the movie’s star takes on a ripped version of himself called Dude. Besides some flying punches and kicks, the actor goes meta — as often happens — and jokes about his other roles, including Deadpool.

Shawn Levy directed the movie from a story Matt Lieberman and a screenplay by Lieberman and Zak Penn. The official synopsis of Free Guy reads.

A bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

Free Guy will debut on Aug. 13. Unlike other Disney IPs, the movie won’t follow a double release path in theaters and Disney+, but it will only see a theatrical release.
