Matt Damon Talks About His Return In Thor: Love and Thunder

In Thor: Ragnarok, Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, and Sam Neill had cameos as Asgardian theater actors who recreated the events of Thor: The Dark World. Damon’s character portrayed Loki, while Hemsworth and Neill played “Thor” and “Odin,” respectively. And while Tom Hiddleston’s Loki won’t return for Thor: Love and Thunder, Damon’s off-brand Loki will be back.

Via Heroic Hollywood, Damon confirmed his return during an appearance on The Jeff Cagle Show. Damon also acknowledged that the secret was spoiled because he and his co-stars were spotted on the set in New Zealand.

“I don’t know if it’s secret or not though everybody knows,” said Damon. “I went down there to shoot, I think they sussed out, because paparazzi took pictures of us so that they sussed out what we were doing. We were kind of reprising a cameo…that Luke Hemsworth and I did in the last one. And we had a ball and so Taika [Waititi] had us back again, to kind of run that joke back and upgrade it a little bit.”

Additionally, the set photos that exposed Damon and Hemsworth’s appearances revealed that Melissa McCarthy will have a cameo as an Asgardian actress portraying Hela. Russell Crowe will also have a cameo in the film, and he hasn’t been shy about exposing his role.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
