A Mortal Kombat Legends Sequel is Coming This Summer
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Warner Bros. is returning to the world of animation for its next Mortal Kombat feature. Following the success of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge in 2020, this studio is gearing up to release a sequel, Battle of the Realms, sometime this summer.
Boasting a star-studded voice cast headlined by Joel McHale as Johnny Cage and Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, Scorpion’s Revenge earned positive reviews when it was released on home media last year. It also holds the distinction of being the first Mortal Kombat film to receive an R-rating. McHale and Carpenter are both reprising their roles for the sequel. Patrick Seitz (Scorpion), Ikè Amadi (Jax Briggs), and Artt Butler (Shang Tsung) will also return. Plot details are limited. But judging by the title, the characters will be visiting other dimensions from the original video games.
The new movie will also add several new characters into the mix. Matthew Mercer is joining the cast as both Stryker and Smoke. Meanwhile, Bayardo De Murguia is taking over for Steve Blum as Sub-Zero. lDe Murguia is also voicing Kuai Liang. Other new additions include Matt Yang King as Kung Lao, Paul Nakauchi as Lin Kuei Grandmaster, Emily O’Brien as Jade, and Debra Wilson as D’Vorah.
Ethan Spaulding and Jeremy Adams are also returning as the sequel’s director and writer, respectively. Ed Boon, who co-created Mortal Kombat with John Tobias in 1992, will once again serve as a creative consultant.
Warner Bros. Animation hasn’t announced a release date for Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
