Fans are wondering whether Smiling Friends has been renewed or canceled for Season 4. After delivering three incredibly hilarious seasons, fans are now hoping to continue Pim, Charlie, and the rest of the gang’s wacky adventures.
Here’s what the showrunners have said about the future of the show.
Has Smiling Friends been canceled or renewed for Season 4?
Showrunners Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel have confirmed that Smiling Friends is returning not just for Season 4, but also a Season 5. However, an official date for the fourth season has yet to be revealed.
They’ve also said that the show won’t go on forever. “We want it to be like a nice little box set, and we’ve talked about potential seasons that we’d want to stop at, for sure, and it depends on the day,” Cusack told The Hollywood Reporter. “Sometimes we’ll wake up and be like, ‘You know what? Three seasons could be enough.’ But then the next day, we’re like, ‘No, actually, another number sounds better.’ So we always go back and forth, but we are pretty staunch on it not going on forever.”
Smiling Friends recently wrapped up its third season, which premiered on October 5, 2025. The finale aired on November 30, 2025.
Smiling Friends is an animated comedy series following the misadventures of employees at a charity company dedicated to bringing happiness to people. Both showrunners have voiced the lead characters. Cusack voices Pim Pimling, Allan Red, Mr. Frog, and other background characters over the three seasons. On the other hand, Hadel voices Charlie Dompler and Gleep, along with cameo characters like DJ Spit and Satan.
Apart from its absurd comedy, the show also features unique visuals created by combining various animation techniques. It seamlessly blends 2D animation with stop motion, Flash animation, rotoscoping, live action, and several others.
The first three seasons of Smiling Friends are available to stream on HBO Max.
