Who Is Thomas Godolkin in Gen V Season 2? Cipher’s Twist Explained

Gen V Episode 7 delivered one of the biggest twists in the show so far, revealing that Cipher was not what fans had expected him to be. The episode also introduced a major revelation involving Thomas Godolkin and his real identity.

With so much happening in the closing moments of the episode, here is a breakdown of the big Cipher twist.

Gen V Season 2’s Thomas Godolkin and Cipher twist explained

After much of the season teasing Cipher as the primary villain, it was revealed in the finale that Cipher, as seen on screen, was just an ordinary man controlled by the real Cipher. The true Cipher turned out to be the founder of the institute, Thomas Godolkin.

As shown in the penultimate episode of Gen V Season 2, Thomas Godolkin, a powerful telepath capable of completely taking over and remotely controlling another body, moved his consciousness into the body of Doug Brightbill, who was not a supe. This also explains why Marie previously did not find Compound V in his blood.

The entire ordeal, including pushing Marie’s powers to the point where she could resurrect or heal people, was an elaborate plan to have her resurrect Godolkin’s original body. While most assumed him to be dead, Cipher, or Doug, kept the body alive. He planned everything to bring himself back to life.

In the penultimate episode, Marie tried to join forces with Thomas Godolkin to defeat Cipher. She was unaware that they were the same person. By fixing his body, she inadvertently created a new primary antagonist. He aims to eliminate 75 percent of the superhero population, leaving behind only the strongest ones.

Now, the finale will delve deeper into Godolkin’s character. It may see the young heroes take on one of the biggest villains in the franchise so far.

Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 is now streaming on Prime Video.
