The episode gave the impression that Takamura might have died in the Sakamoto Days Episode 16. However, there’s a chance that he could be the one “missing” as per the anime’s narration.
In the episode, Slur (aka X) and Gaku face the elderly hitmen, Takamura, who appears to have unbeatable sword skills. The duo invades the JAA headquarters but is confronted by Taro Sakamoto and his beloved proteges Shin and Lu. Takamura enters the scene, giving Slur and his henchmen a tough fight, which doesn’t end well for many of the characters.
Firstly, Takamura cuts off Gaku’s hands and battles other henchmen. As he was about to end Slur’s game, he did the unthinkable. Before Takamura could do anything, Slur detonated a bomb, blasting the building. In the explosion, Takamura’s life appears to be taken away. It’s learnt that Sakamoto and his employees survived the blast as they appear to emerge from beneath the rubble. But Takamura was nowhere to be seen, suggesting that he might have died.
But, there are chances that Takamura could have survived and might have gone into hiding. This is because there’s a narration towards the end of the anime, which claims, “The number of professional assassins in Japan dropped by three-quarters that day.” It mentions that the explosion has injured three, 176 people died, and one person went missing. The one who was missing might be Takamura, as per the original manga.
