Is Natalie alive in Ironheart Episode 6’s ending and how?

Yes, Natalie is alive by the end of Ironheart Episode 6. But her return isn’t a product of science or coincidence—it’s the result of a Faustian bargain.

Earlier in the season, Natalie died in a drive-by shooting that also took the life of Riri’s stepdad, Gary. Riri coped the only way she knew how: by coding an AI version of her best friend. But when she used magic to supercharge her armor, the AI vanished. It seemed like Natalie was gone forever.

Then came Mephisto. After Riri outsmarts and defeats Parker Robbins and Ezekiel Stane in the finale, she meets the mysterious man who gave Parker his demonic cloak. He introduces himself as Mephisto—Marvel’s answer to the devil. Instead of proposing a formal deal, he simply talks to Riri and scans her mind. He knows exactly what she wants.

Moments later, Riri walks into her garage, and Natalie is there. Not a hologram. Not an AI. She’s flesh and blood, asking why Riri is telling her to run diagnostics, with no memory of ever being dead. However, as they hug, the camera pulls back to reveal something new: dark, branching scars forming on Riri’s arm. It’s the same kind Parker developed after wearing Mephisto’s cursed cloak, suggesting Riri may be slowly losing herself.

Why did Riri make a deal with Mephisto?

Riri made the deal with Mephisto because she couldn’t bear to live with the loss anymore.

Throughout the season, she struggled with PTSD and guilt over Natalie’s and Gary’s deaths. Her mantra, that “the past is the past,” crumbled under the weight of trauma. So, when Mephisto offered a chance at reunion, she didn’t refuse.
