Who Is Mister Miracle in DC? Powers Explained

Wondering who Mister Miracle is and why he’s one of the most unique heroes in the DC Universe? With a new animated series on the way, interest in the legendary escape artist is rising fast. Known for his incredible intellect, tragic origin, and unmatched ability to break free from any trap, Mister Miracle stands apart from typical superheroes.

Here’s who Mister Miracle is in DC Comics, what his powers are, and why he matters now more than ever.

Who is DC’s Mister Miracle in comics?

Scott Free, a New God from the planet New Genesis, assumes the superhero identity of Mister Miracle. As part of a peace treaty between Highfather and Darkseid, the leaders exchanged sons, and Darkseid raised Scott on Apokolips.

Granny Goodness took custody of Scott on Apokolips and subjected him to intense psychological and physical torture. The abuse was designed to break his spirit. Despite the suffering, Scott stayed resilient and used his intelligence to escape to Earth. There, he became the master escape artist known as Mister Miracle.

What are the powers of Mister Miracle?

He possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, and stamina, like all New Gods. He is known primarily for his unparalleled escape artistry and strategic intellect.

Mister Miracle uses advanced Apokoliptian technology, including a Mother Box that allows him to teleport via Boom Tubes, generate force fields, emit shockwaves, and detect energy and life forms. He also uses Aero Disks for flight and wall-scaling, and is capable of escaping any confinement, including situations that appear fatal.

The superhero first appeared in Mister Miracle #1 (1971), created by Jack Kirby. He has a close relationship with Big Barda, a fellow New God from Apokolips, whom he later marries. The two contrast in temperament but maintain a strong partnership.

An adult animated series based on Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ 12-issue comic is in development at DC Studios. Described officially as the story of “the greatest escape artist who ever lived,” it explores Scott Free’s attempt to escape death and overcome the trauma of his past as war reignites between Apokolips and New Genesis.

DC Studios announced the show at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and production is currently underway.
