What Language Do Ghorman People Speak in Andor Season 2?

Curious about what language the Ghorman people speak in Andor Season 2? As Cassian Andor’s mission collides with local resistance and Imperial surveillance, the planet of Ghorman takes center stage in a high-stakes arc filled with covert ops, personal losses, and cultural depth. From coded conversations to unique symbols across the set, the language of Ghorman adds another layer to the show’s immersive world-building.

Here’s a full breakdown of the fictional language the Ghormans speak and how it plays into the second season of the Andor storyline.

Is the Ghorman language in Andor Season 2 from the real world?

The Ghorman language in Andor Season 2 is not based on any real-world language.

Dialect coach Marina Tyndall created the language specifically for the series. It exists primarily in spoken form and cannot be easily translated without understanding its audio components.

According to StarWars.com, graphic artists Elle McKee and Lauren Dix designed two written forms of the language—Ghorelle (High Ghor) and Dixian (Low Ghor). These scripts appear across Ghorman locations, including signage and props like the animatronic dog’s collar outside the Ghorman Front headquarters.

What language do the Ghormans speak in Andor Season 2?

The people of Ghorman speak Ghor, a fictional language developed for Andor Season 2.

It features a unique structure that makes it unintelligible without prior exposure to its spoken form. Unlike Aurebesh, which translates Galactic Basic in written form, Ghor relies heavily on oral cues and is not based on any known human language.

The creators designed two written dialects of Ghor—Ghorelle and Dixian—and used them decoratively throughout the Ghorman set. These scripts shape the planet’s cultural and visual identity. For instance, a collar features the word “Elvis” in Dixian, and signage across the plaza displays both dialects.

In the narrative of Season 2, Ghorman plays a central role as the backdrop for a failed mission by Cassian Andor and a later successful operation by Vel and Cinta. Vel’s arrival triggers Imperial surveillance, leading to a high-stakes heist that culminates in a tragic accidental shooting by Front member Samm. Despite the Ghormans’ inexperience, the Rebellion’s leaders see the planet’s symbolic and strategic value.

Andor Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+, with three new episodes dropping on May 6, 2025.
