Why Fans Think Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Movie Will Get Canceled

Dave Filoni was announced to be helming a Star Wars movie in 2023’s Star Wars Celebration event. However, this project has not yet received a concrete release date or timeframe. As such, fans are wondering if the film is facing development problems and will get canceled. This movie is expected to wrap up the storylines established in The Mandalorian and its spin-offs, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka.

So, will Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie centered around The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, get canceled? Here’s what we know on the subject.

Could Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian and Ahsoka Star Wars movie get canceled?

It remains to be seen as to whether Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie featuring The Mandalorian and Ahsoka will get canceled.

However, the film’s production and development process is taking an incredibly long time. This is because Filoni is hard at work on Ahsoka Season 2, which was officially announced in January 2024. Moreover, things aren’t always consistent with Star Wars projects, as there are multiple films, without a concrete release date or production update, in development.

Dave Filoni recently offered an update on his Star Wars movie’s development in an interview. Speaking to Collider, Filoni stated that his film had a “long development” process. He explained his passion for working on “very large arcs” and considered the storylines of all his projects as the reason for it.

“Well, how do we do unique things? What are unique set pieces, and where is the story going? What’s the play of the story?’ I ask myself these questions,” Filoni added.

Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer then acknowledged how his work in Ahsoka Season 2 could “change things” and impact his upcoming Star Wars movie or future projects.

“At times, all a balancing act, but I’m constantly working at it, working out scenes,” Filoni added. “I know several scenes and where they would go, so you kind of plug it in as you go.”

As of this writing, only two upcoming Star Wars films have a confirmed release date. These are The Mandalorian and Grogu and Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter. They will be released on May 22, 2026, and May 28, 2027, respectively.
