A forgotten Star Wars project is finally stepping into the spotlight. After sitting on the shelf for more than a decade, it has a release plan. Seth Green surprised fans at San Diego Comic-Con by revealing where audiences will finally get to watch episodes from the long-delayed animated comedy.
Seth Green reveals new release details for Star Wars: Detours
The unexpected update arrived during the Inside the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art panel, where Green discussed George Lucas’ upcoming museum alongside Matt Senreich, Jim Lee and Ryan Linkof.
When moderator Keke Palmer asked whether any of Green’s work would appear in the museum, he received the go-ahead to answer and unveiled news many Star Wars fans had stopped expecting.
Green revealed that Star Wars: Detours will be featured as a curated presentation at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art when it opens in Los Angeles on September 22. Recalling the series’ origins, he explained that Lucas envisioned “The Simpsons in the Star Wars universe,” describing the experience of creating the show as one of the most rewarding projects of his career (via EW).
The animated comedy first surfaced during Star Wars Celebration in 2012, where preview footage generated early excitement. Soon afterward, Disney acquired Lucasfilm, and the project quietly disappeared from release schedules. Although dozens of completed episodes remained finished, the series spent years without an official premiere.
Behind the scenes, however, Detours had progressed far beyond its public debut. During a 2013 Reddit Q&A, Green shared that the team had completed 39 episodes while another 62 scripts were ready for production. At the time, he expressed confidence the series would remain entertaining regardless of how long audiences had to wait, calling it “funny,” “smart” and “timeless.”
Executive-produced by George Lucas, the animated series assembled a notable voice cast that includes Felicia Day, Andy Richter, Donald Faison, Seth MacFarlane, Jennifer Hale, Zachary Levi and Green himself.
