“Hey dude, this is no cartoon!” Thus went the tagline of a movie we barely thought could be possible in 1990. In that pre-CG era, the idea that anybody could make the comic-book heroes in a half-shell look anything but ridiculous in live-action strained credulity, but we knew if anyone could, it would be the Henson Creature Shop. Pulling off a near-miracle, they helped create what many still consider to be the best of all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. They may have looked a little puppety, but they pulled off enough of the moves and personality that fans could generally suspend disbelief.
Coming Out Party
On the poster, they first appeared peaking out of a manhole, and now Premium Collectibles Studio has made a life-sized replica of that emergence. It’s a pretty big sewer to fit those giant, full-body suit creations, with a diameter of three and a half feet wide and 16 inches tall.
As far as the materials, PCS says, “Set into a base featuring a fully realized big city manhole, this piece boasts realistic textures, striking deco applications and a translucent green water feature that adds just the right amount of ‘ick factor’ to the entrance of an underground sewer lair.”
How much does it cost? You may be sorry you asked. The tag is $2,500, and yet the special early platinum edition has already sold out, so don’t sleep on this if you are the kind of high-rolling fan who would reasonably want it and have the resources. Installment plans are available in as many as ten payments.
One might say, “Hey dude, this is no action figure.” Those Turtle Boys have had so many collectibles over the years, but this is for the hardcore and the high-rolling. Definite bragging rights can be had with this in your home. Take a look at some official images below:
