Spider-Man and Wolverine Trade Villains in Surprising Fight

Spider-Man and Wolverine are easily the most popular superheroes at Marvel Comics. Despite this, Peter Parker and Logan do not enjoy working together. The dour X-Men member dislikes Spidey’s humor and the wall-crawler dislikes Logan’s violent tendencies. However, when push comes to shove, the two do trust each other in a fight. This is fortunate, as the first issue of their new team-up book pushes them to fight a supervillain usually associated with their partner.

Spider-Man and Wolverine Trade Villains in Surprising Fight

Written by Marc Guggenheim, with art by Kaare Andrews, Spider-Man & Wolverine #1 finds the two heroes breaking into a SHIELD Helicarrier. They are ambushed by Omega Red and Kraven the Hunter, who are attempting the same deed. Unsurprisingly, a fight breaks out. However, the heroes attempt to turn the tide of battle by trading foes

Why do Spider-Man and Wolverine trade villains?

On the surface, it seems like Spidey suggests switching enemies just to make things interesting. However, there is some tactical logic to the suggestion as well. The ambush suggests that Omega Red and Kraven the Hunter had some sort of plan in place for fighting them. Given their respective histories, it would be logical for the villains to target their hated-enemy. Besides that, both villains have deep grudges against their respective heroes, as well as knowledge of how to fight them. With all that in mind, Spider-Man & Wolverine switching foes is more likely than not to ruin the villains’ plan of attack.

Unfortunately, the plan isn’t all that effective. While not as strong as Logan, Kraven has faced Wolverine before and knows what to expect. And while Spider-Man can hold his own against Omega Red, the short-fused Russian super-soldier has an even lower tolerance for Peter Parker’s idea of comedy than Logan. And yet, this preview hints at the intense action one would expect of a team-up featuring Spider-Man & Wolverine.
