Spider-Man: Brand New Day has fans making comparisons to Sam Raimi’s classic trilogy following its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
One of the biggest highlights that the critics picked up was its similarities with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, directed by Raimi. Despite praising the initial half of the movie, critics pointed out that the movie felt like a lot of emotions stuffed into one. Just like Raimi’s Spider-Man, the pacing also seemed off.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day had some positive reviews. Fans were happy with how Destin Daniel Cretton had instilled the emotional quotient of Peter Parker fighting with loneliness. They also praised Marvel for trying to break their old habit of treating a pre-Avengers movie as a buildup for the next big release.
However, despite all the upbeat comments, Brand New Day has faltered in ratings. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the fourth installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man movie has secured an 89% score. This also makes Brand New Day the lowest-rated movie of the franchise.
Compared to Sam Raimi’s trilogy, this movie has secured fairly lower ratings than the first two Spider-Man movies. Spider-Man, released in 2002, secured a 90% score, while the 2004 release Spider-Man 2 had a solid 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating. However, the last of the lot did not perform well, as Spider-Man 3 (2007) could only garner a 62% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially hits theaters worldwide on July 31, 2026.
